Food Photography

ONLINE:

I like how in food photography the food is always so well decorated and done. There looks to be a good amount of shadows being created to highlight the food itself. The background always has either some sort of prop, or a food prop, or just nothing. The photographer knows when and when to not make their photograph simple versus more surrounded by items. With food photography I noticed that there is always an upwards shot and if not that then a lower shot of the side of the food. The shot from above makes it so that us viewers can see more of the food. A shot from above lets us see all the food in one photo. A shot from the side allows us to see all the different elements to the food item. We get to see the food while also seeing the things inside of it.

I think the lighting in the photo was achieved with a light source. The photos don’t look like they’d be taken in natural light. I also can tell that there is some editing done to the food photography photos. There looks to be added up some saturation and contrast. The photos look sharp with good lighting. I feel like in some of the photos even a LED light could be used because of the particular light being created. Editing could play a part in this, but colored LEDs definitely also maybe could. Some photos seem to be edited more darker as well. It really just depends on the photographer, the food item, and the business where the food came from. Some businesses want a sharper bright look to their food while some want a more toned-down look to their food.
